DIY: Beaded Bow Necklace (Anthropologie Inspired)

Like most things on Anthropologie’s website, I adored this River Bow Necklace, but knew it was definitely DIY-able. While $34 isn’t even that expensive for a necklace, this could easily be made for way less – and even in a different color, if you wanted!

Anthropolgie River Bow Necklace, $34.00

Supplies:

– Gold beads (or color of your choice)
– Wire (I used 24 gauge)
– Heavy duty sewing thread, similar in color to the beads you’re using
– Jewelry pliers, scissors, chain, clasp, jump rings
– Clear nailpolish

(The sun was totally not my friend today, so I apologize for the dim pictures!)

1) Start off by cutting a piece of wire, about 9 inches long. Make a loop at the end with your jewelry pliers; make sure the hole is completely closed off. Otherwise, beads will slide right off the other end.

2) String on about 3 inches worth of beads.

3) Wire goes through the loop…

4) String on another 3 inches of beads.

5) Wire goes through the loop again…

6) Wrap the wire around the center 2 or 3 times, then trim it down.

7) Cut a piece of thread, about 8 inches long. Tie a knot (several times to make sure it’s secure) and seal it with a dot of clear nail polish. String about 4 inches worth of beads (or more, if you’d like).

8) Tie off the other end.

TIP: This can get kind of tricky with the beads sliding around, so try reinserting the string back into the last bead and pulling it taught. Tie a few times and seal with clear nail polish.

9) Tie the strand of beads around the center of the wire bow. You may want to use a dot of glue or clear nail polish to keep it in place.

10) Using jump rings, attach the bow to the chain.

11) Done 🙂

If gold’s not your thing, you can definitely make the bow any color you want; I tried it out with some turquoise beads (my favorite color). I may make another one in black or silver.
