Wild Guide: 12 Summer DIY Fashion Projects

Oh hey there, summer. I have to admit that I prefer the latter half of the season (not too cool, not too hot) – but I’m a big fan of sunshine, pools and beaches. Furthermore, July is not only my birthday month…but Studs & Pearls’, too! (Can you believe that this blog turns 4 this year? I feel like a proud momma). Here’s a list of 12 favorite summer DIY’s from over the years, all originally created by myself for s&p or other websites. Enjoy!

1. Nothing says summer like ombre and lace. Visit Cosmopolitan Magazine Philippines’ website for this DIY by yours truly, the Lace Cover-Up. Perfect for the beach.
2. Two years ago, I whipped up this Towel Beach Bag for Buzzfeed. Ideal for those pool side hang outs! My favorite aspect is the braided turquoise ribbon, of course.

3. Add lace details to aviators for a pair of Valentino inspired shades. I wore these yesterday, actually! Lace Aviator Sunglasses.

4. Turn a long sleeved shirt into an Off-the-Shoulder Top by re-positioning the sleeves.

5. Embellish those plain jane shades with seed beads and wire: Beaded Sunglasses DIY

6. One of my most used projects in my day-to-day life…Elastic Hair Ties.

7. Still loving the Ribbon Pleated Skirt from last summer! Made from a vintage find and jacquard ribbon in my favorite colors.

8. Painted Seashell Earrings inspired a pair worth $4,000. Hold on to those seashells that you find at the beach!

9. An old studs & pearls fave: the Bra to Bustier tutorial.

10. Add texture and dimension to your sandals with my Beaded Strappy Sandals project for eHow.

11. Make a statement with this Oversized Bow Skirt DIY.
12. Add scalloped details with metallic nail strips: Scalloped Sunglasses.
…The hardest part is choosing what summer project to start first. Have fun!Xo, Kirsten
