crafty with a cause: Handmade Greeting Cards for Meals on Wheels

Every other month, I send 15-20 handmade cards the Elderly Nutrition Program to be distributed through Meals on Wheels. I typically make them sporadically, a couple here and there between projects, work, etc. In the volunteering ad that I came across a few months ago, the only requirements were that the cards be elderly-friendly and be Get Well or Birthday themed. The programs then include these cards in the appropriate meal packages for elderly recipients.

Not only is this a great way to give back to the community, but it’s yet another creative outlet for us crafty minds. For me, I’ve been able to use up a LOT of my miscellaneous supplies through these cards – everything from leftover watercolor paper to the tiniest of fabric scraps.

Want to donate some handmade cards? Just send them to the address below! You can make as little or as many as you want – whatever your resources and time will allow. Every card will count 🙂 I’ve communicated with one of the employees that works at the ENP, and she reinforced how appreciate the elders are of the cards that they receive.

** I’ve discovered a couple other volunteering opportunities that can be craft/creative related, and that can be done right from your own home. I’ve decided to start sharing these opportunities on studs & pearls, thus the new feature titled “Crafty with a Cause”!
